We had a #CoffeeDate with Martijn Vernooij about his switch from grower to Technical Sales Consultant, and what advantages and challenges that brings.
My name is Martijn Vernooij and I am a Technical Sales Consultant for Bosman Van Zaal. Together with my colleagues, I advise on projects that will be eventually realised together with the clients. I have been working at Bosman Van Zaal for two years now.
My father was a rose grower, so as a child I was already familiar with the sector. Later on, I also became a grower. When rose prices dropped enormously, we decided to switch to another crop and we started to grow cymbidium.
After a long career as a grower, I was ready for a new career and ended up at Bosman Van Zaal. My background positively contributed to that. During my work, I have a lot of contact with growers. Because I have been in the same position, I can support them in making the right choices. In the end, the intention is that the client is so satisfied that he will choose to work with Bosman Van Zaal.
On the one hand, my job is special because I have close contact with my clients, on the other hand, it is because I am involved in unique projects. When I started, I became instantly involved in medicinal cannabis projects. This market is quite different, with many different types of projects and clients with no horticultural experience whatsoever. These kinds of challenges make my job interesting.
For now, there is not one specific thing that I would like to take up or change. Obviously, I do hope to be able to realise many more interesting projects!
Being a taxi driver for my children, haha! They have sports to go to this weekend. Nothing else is planned, but I am okay with that.
