My name is Pierre van Kessel and I work in the Software Engineering department. Together with our team we design, write and test the software for the automation of cultivation systems in greenhouses and research centres. Then we put the software into operation on location. And we do this worldwide.
It's a lot of fun to come up with solutions for the customer based on the project specification. Because developments in the field of hardware and software never stand still, we can make it a little nicer every time. Because you also come on location to the commission, it is a varied job with personal contact with different types of customers.
Just like I think the rest of the Netherlands, I couldn't avoid the nitrogen discussion. Because my father-in-law owns his own farm, it's interesting to hear the story from several sides.
In the past year, we started a project to use a new type of machine control in our transport systems. The software that we have written for this purpose has been made according to a standard working method that we have laid down. Now is the time to start a pilot project and roll it out further.
To be honest, I hadn't heard of this day. I came across this quote:
"Engineering or technology is all about using the power of science to make life better for people, to reduce cost, to improve comfort, to improve productivity, et cetera."
- N. R. Narayana Murthy
When I read this, I think it's nice that we're also doing our bit here.
This weekend I'm going with the in-laws to a cottage in Friesland. In total there are 14 of us and we are celebrating Sinterklaas. We do this every year around this time and is always very cosy.
