At Bosman Van Zaal, we create vertical production systems in existing and new buildings, often in urban environments, where sustainability, convenience and a higher yield are paramount. The vertical systems are used for food production, the cultivation of plant material from seed, cuttings or laboratory and for research, often in order to speed up cultivation cycles. Not only growers, but also investors are increasingly seeing the benefits of Vertical Farming.
The systems often consist of closed and conditioned rooms with multiple cultivation layers, which are part of a complete cultivation system in a greenhouse. The plant material from the greenhouse is placed on aluminium roll containers in the conditioned area, in which the climate, light, and air are fully optimised on the basis of growth analyses. When the plant material has reached the right size, a transplanter places the plants in the cultivation tray and returns them to the greenhouse. The containers used are then automatically washed and prepared for reuse.

We introduce the Grow & Roll as one of the components of our vertical agricultural and horticultural systems. With the Grow & Roll, we have developed a well-thought-out system in which we combine our expertise in climate, cultivation systems, water, electricity and control systems. The mobile container with multilayer carts functions as a closed laboratory for the efficient cultivation of seeds, cuttings and crops, or as a compact production area for food products.
Any desired climate is simulated in the climate container by adjusting temperature, humidity, light, CO2 and irrigation. Each module has its own docking station including water connection and electrical connection for dimmable LED lamps with white growth light and UV for disinfection of air and water. Air circulation can be fine-tuned. Moisture and temperature problems are thus reduced to a minimum. Disinfection of the container is made easy by the movable modules. Heat exchangers make energy recovery possible.
The climate is controlled with the iSii compact climate computer from partner Hoogendoorn, which measures and records the growing conditions. This makes analyses easily available via the internet.
