HilverdaFlorist will continue with the extension of the greenhouse complex at its main location on the Dwarsweg in De Kwakel. A contract for this new construction was recently signed between HilverdaFlorist and Bosman Van Zaal. The construction of almost 2.2 hectares of greenhouses and 7000 m2 of business premises adjacent to the Achterweg will start in the spring of 2021 and be put into use in early 2022.
HilverdaFlorist focuses on the breeding, propagation, and development of a wide range of cut flowers, pot plants, and garden plants. "The construction of the new greenhouses is fully in line with the ambitions of the organisation. Our ambition is to be the leading breeding and propagation company with the most innovative products in the selected crop groups", says Arthur Koekkoek, Director Operations, R&D and Supply Chain of HilverdaFlorist. With the realisation of this new building, HilverdaFlorist wants to give a new impulse to the reliability and quality of high-quality basic material for the floriculture sector.
The total greenhouse complex will accommodate HilverdaFlorist's entire young plant production needs in the Netherlands. Bosman Van Zaal was chosen as the main contractor. The Venlotype greenhouse and a cabrio greenhouse were chosen for better hardening off of young plants. The greenhouses have a covering of high diffusion glass and integrated insect netting. Moreover, the project is fully equipped according to the New Cultivation concept. The climate system includes a CO2 unit and collector, a CHP (combined heat and power) unit, and various heating systems. In addition, a processing area, two freshening areas, a roof, and buildings for technical services, installations, cold storage, and storage will be built. The irrigation and climate system within the greenhouse will be realised by Stolze Installatietechniek.

The choice for Bosman Van Zaal and Stolze is partly based on years of cooperation with HilverdaFlorist, in which quality, reliability, and continuity are important factors. By building the new greenhouses, the location can be arranged more efficiently and there is more space for the production of young plants. But also research and development of new products becomes possible. The aim is to continue to serve HilverdaFlorist customers with high-quality plant material and innovative products.
